Menopause Yoga
Menopause Yoga is very special, combining both a therapeutic style of yoga designed to help women manage menopause symptoms as well as a powerful and positive approach to this stage of life that views the menopause as an opportunity for self-insight and personal growth.
It is also a community which includes women’s circle discussions in every workshop, enabling the sharing of wisdom.
Principles of Menopause Yoga
The principal of MY is that it provides the three S’s of Menopause Yoga: Safe and Supportive Spaces, and Signposting individuals to other services if needed.
MY combines Western medical science and Eastern wellbeing practices to EDUCATE women about menopause so that they can make informed choices; give them a toolkit of techniques to help manage their main symptoms so they feel EMPOWERED; give them the support and guidance to EMBRACE the menopause as an opportunity for self-knowledge and growth.

How is MY different to other styles of yoga?
MY is based on hatha yoga, but it is a non-dogmatic practice that incorporates vinyasa style movement, restorative yoga, yoga nidra and elements of yin yoga.
Classes always include meditation and space for self-reflection.
What is a MY class like?
MY classes and workshops always start with a menopause related theme and then carry this theme through the whole class by threading together breathwork (pranayama), yoga postures (asana), restorative yoga, relaxation pose (savasana), poetry and prose, meditation, or guided visualisation and then at the end, time for self-reflection or journal writing.
The classes are collective, group experiences whilst also being very personal for each person.
What menopause symptoms do the classes cover?
There are five key areas covered in the MY classes and workshops:
-
HOT FLUSHES
-
RAGE and IRRITABILITY
-
ANXIETY and OVERWHELM
-
INSOMNIA and FATIGUE
-
LOW MOOD and LETHARGY
‘Once we understand the true nature of a woman’s life cycle, we can celebrate our feminine energy, acknowledge the wisdom within us all and share this knowledge with younger generations so that they view our menopausal years not with fear and anxiety, but instead as a time of liberation, creativity, respect and empowerment’
