Frequently asked questions

FAQ's

What is Yoga?

The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuji’ which means ‘to yolk’ or ‘to unify’. Yoga is an ancient practice that brings together the mind and the body. It includes breathing exercises, meditation and poses designed to encourage relaxation and reduce stress.

What are the benefits of Yoga?

With the proper movement and technique, yoga helps lengthen your muscles and loosen your fascia, leading to improved flexibility and range of motion. Regularly practicing yoga may help lower cortisol (our stress hormone) and help us build better coping tools to better manage stress and anxiety. Studies have shown that a consistent yoga practice may help decrease pain and improve physical functions for conditions such as osteoarthritis. Yoga has been shown to increase melatonin secretion, the hormone that regulates sleep cycles. Yoga has been shown to improve concentration and focus as well as help improve overall movement and coordination, all factors that aide in balance. Practicing certain yoga postures and routines consistently can help improve core strength as well as increase strength in other muscle groups and has also been shown to increase lean muscle mass.

Is Yoga a religion?

Do I need to be fit or flexible to practice yoga?

You do not need to be either of these things to practice yoga. Yoga is accessible to everyone. Yoga is not about touching your toes or making fancy shapes, but about learning to move your body safely and class by class improving flexibility and strength.

The simple answer is no. Yoga is not a religion. There is no bible or other doctrine that its students follow. Instead, it is a practice designed to help unify body, mind and spirit.

I’m new to yoga – which class should I attend?

Please get in touch if you are unsure which class would be best for you.

I offer modifications in all my classes, but some are more suited to those with some yoga experience.

Do I need to book?

What should I wear?

I would recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing with layers that can be easily removed or added during a class. You should be ready to practice in bare feet as this is the traditional and safest way to practice.

What equipment do I need?

Yoga can be practiced without any equipment or props, however a mat designed for yoga will give you grip and provide cushioning from the potentially hard or cold floor of the studio.

Yes, all classes must be booked and paid for in advance as spaces are limited.

Will I receive a booking confirmation email?

Yes, once you have purchased a class you should receive a confirmation email. Please check that it hasn’t gone into your spam/junk folder and that you have typed your email address correctly when purchasing the class.

I have an injury, should I come to class?

If you are not sure if you should attend a class, please get in touch with me either via email or text. Of course, if you are feeling unwell, please do not come to class.

Help! I need to cancel my class…

If you are unable to attend a class, please cancel at least 4 hours prior to the class start time to enable the spot to be filled, otherwise you will still be charged.

Are classes refundable?

Classes are not refundable, but you can reschedule your class to a different day for another class of the same value. You can reschedule your class up to twelve hours before the start of your scheduled class.

Do I need to be a member of the website to book a class?

Yes, you do need to be signed up to the website to book a class. But it’s free and only takes a few moments to complete.
